Since the industrial revolution in the middle of the 19th century, the so-called “Schinkelleuchten” with their warm gas light have shaped the nocturnal atmosphere of the city of Leipzig.
As part of the model project “Intelligent City Light”, the City of Leipzig had the existing 360 Schinkel luminaires converted to LED lighting by BRAUN in 2011. The conversion to LED GASlight led to a sustainable reduction in energy consumption and further savings through the elimination of cost-intensive maintenance of conventional gas lighting.
