Upper West at Breitscheidplatz, Berlin-Charlottenburg

Initial situation
The metalworking specialists at Arnold AG was commissioned to build an oversized gas lamp according to the design of the artist Olaf Nicolai for the forecourt of the “Upper West”, an imposing 119-meter-high high-rise building in the middle of the City-West of Berlin.

Customer request and order
The solution was a detailed and impressive special construction and a real eye-catcher at the same time. The result is a 16 m high Berlin gas lamp (model lamp Alt-Berlin) with a bundled pillar mast (model Berlin) and compared to the standard height, larger at a 4:1 scale. The “Berliner Ensemble” makes the City-West shine in highly polished stainless steel.

BRAUN designed, supplied, and installed the complete control and condensing system as well as the special installation kits for gas lighting technology including the corresponding CAD services for Arnold AG.

The solution from BRAUN
The new luminaire on the Upper West is the largest gas light candelabra in the world. Once again, with this design BRAUN Lighting Solutions proved the greatest possible flexibility in terms of customer requirements and technical know-how. This widely visible lighting installation is to impress many people and surely will be used as a good photo motif many times.

BRAUN Lighting Solutions – simply better light.
