Initial situation:

Nestled in the beautiful landscape of Schwerin’s lakes, Schwerin Palace resembles a true fairytale castle. Once the seat of the dukes of Mecklenburg, it now houses the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and the impressive castle museum. In the course of extensive renovations in 2014/2015, the exterior lighting was also renewed and converted to LED light.

Customer request and order:

 In certain luminaires, an LED installation kit had to be integrated, which should not blind despite its high brightness. Additionally, the solution had to be dimmable and sustainable. The use a modern LED technology, which would fit harmoniously into the historical luminaries, was also important for the planning office. To maintain the overall look and feel of the luminaires, no modern luminaire elements were to be visible. After completion of the lighting, however, the planners discovered that the desired dimming capability was not reachable. The reason was the long distance between the control box and the luminaires themselves. Specific know-how skills from electrical engineering were required to solve this matter. BRAUN proved to be a reliable solution provider.

The solution from BRAUN:

The company has developed and produced a special digital-to-analog converter to meet the dimming requirements. The converter allowed the conversion of the analog signal to digital before the line, thus digitizing the dimming signals. The digitized dimming values were converted to a 1-10V analog signal in the luminaire assuring for reliable dimming.
