Initial situation
Refurbishment and modernisation of the lighting systems of the Kronprinzenbrücke bridge in the government district of Berlin. The Kronprinzenbrücke is a road bridge that spans the River Spree. The lighting system was designed by the Spanish-Swiss architect Santiago Calatrava and is unique in its shape and design. The lighting consists of a combination of 54 lighting units made up of 40 ground luminaires, popularly known as ‘turtles’, and 14 ground luminaires with attached light columns.
Customer request and order
According to the client’s specifications, the dilapidated and non-functioning lighting system was to undergo an all-encompassing refurbishment and modernisation that would meet all requirements in terms of both materials and lighting technology, including the desire for dimming capability via DALI. At the same time, all 54 lighting units should and must remain unchanged in their form and design.
Solution from BRAUN
BRAUN Lighting Solutions developed a new linear LED lighting system that can be combined with CurveLight 30 PIN modules as a solution for this challenging task in the field of lighting technology, and thus finally fulfils all lighting technology specifications including the currently most innovative D4i lighting control system and can therefore be ‘monitored and controlled’ externally via IoT technology.
